Central Florida is known for rockets, theme parks and some of the most advanced simulation and training technology in the country. Less visible, and often overlooked, is the manufacturing work behind many of those industries.
Drawings have to go from being on a computer to becoming tangible objects. Prototypes have to work. Components have to fit and perform as expected. Long before a finished product reaches the public, someone has to figure out how to make it.
That is the kind of work E-Sector Manufacturing has been doing in Sanford since 2014.
We started with a single machine, a TIG welder and years of manufacturing and engineering experience. Twelve years later, the shop is taking on work that would have been outside our reach in the early years.
Customers brought us more difficult jobs. New equipment followed. So did new skills and the ability to take on more complex work.
“Our customers kept bringing us difficult problems. Sure, we could turn down work, but then we would never level up. You learn from the jobs that don't go as planned. You know, we’re humans. Sometimes parts get messed up halfway through and we have to scrap them and start over. Some might look at that negatively, but for us it was an opportunity to improve our processes and standards.”
Manufacturing is unforgiving in a simple way. Parts have specifications and customers have deadlines. A small mistake can become an expensive one quickly.
That pressure is not unique to our shop.
Central Florida manufacturers support industries such as space, automation, simulation, technology and entertainment, and the sector continues to grow. While those industries are all unique in their own ways, they share one thing: they rely on physical hardware and the people who know how to build it.
Artificial intelligence may be driven by software, but the servers and infrastructure behind it are physical. Robots need motors, brackets and actuators. Roller coasters depend on machining, fabrication and engineering before a guest ever gets on the ride. Rockets are launched into space, and the hardware has to survive extreme conditions.
It is a different picture of manufacturing than the one often associated with old factories and assembly lines.
A Brand Built for the Work
Manufacturing is changing, and so is E-Sector.
After 12 years in business, the way we presented ourselves no longer matched the work happening inside the shop. The equipment had changed. The experience had grown. The work had become more demanding, and we had a much clearer idea of the kind of manufacturing company we wanted E-Sector to be.
It was time for the brand to catch up.
Our new identity puts manufacturing first. It is a better reflection of the company we are today and where we see ourselves going within the manufacturing industry in Central Florida.
But the new look does not change what got us here.
It is still about customers trusting us with difficult work. It is still about people figuring out how to get that work done. It is still about learning from mistakes, improving our processes and investing in the equipment and capabilities needed to take on more.
Those things matter even more as manufacturing continues to change.
New technology is rapidly being developed. Industries are evolving. Engineers are working on problems that will eventually require something physical to be built, tested and put to use.
Someone will have to figure out how to make it.
We plan to be ready for that work.
